Project description

Highfield Solar Farm is a renewable energy project spanning approximately 140 hectares, with construction due to begin in 2027. Once operational, it will be capable of generating around 70MW AC of electricity.

The development is Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) ready and will connect to the Orion distribution network at the Norwood GXP.

Services

  • Planning services for resource consent

Client

  • ANZA Power

Year

  • 2024 – 2026

Design challenges and solutions

With a water race bisecting the development area, the site required careful design planning and the preparation of a landscape screening mitigation package.

These considerations were incorporated into the resource consent application, supporting a coordinated approach to the project’s development and its relationship with the surrounding environment.

The resource consent application was granted on a non-notified basis with very favourable consent conditions ahead of construction.

Project outcome

By producing clean, renewable electricity, and the ability to incorporate battery energy storage, Highfield Solar Farm will help meet growing regional demand for energy and contribute to a more diverse and resilient electricity network across Canterbury.
